Re: Brew / JOUGHIN Andreas
In Response To: Re: Brew / JOUGHIN Andreas ()

Sue, could I query your last piece of information? There is something odd about Isabella Joughin. Goodwin sets her among the children of Thomas and Christian (should be Mary) Joughin, the children being set out in no particular order. In the 1841 census her age is 20, which can mean anything from 20 to 24 in 1841, putting her year of birth in the range 1816-21. Thomas and Mary were married in January 1822. In the 1841 census the order is Thomas, Mary, children in order of birth irrespective of gender (I used a word rejected as naughty at first attempt), apart from Isabella, who comes after the youngest child.

You tell us that at marriage in 1848 she and her husband were both 21. I am wondering if that should be over 21, as was so often recorded, to our frustration.
