Mona, your posting brings up some interesting points. I did know that your great-aunt Eleanor was born at sea, but no details. Since you offer, I would be interested to learn more. Are these further details something that will post on this board, or would an attachment to an e-mail be better? If so, my address, modified in the usual way, is pjallen (at) btinternet.com.

Eleanor’s middle name is also of interest. You say it was Tynwald. So did your first cousin Margaret May Joughin of Montreal when I was in touch with her in 1979. There must be a story behind that. However, she was baptised Eleanor Florence, on 19th June 1853 at Lonan, according to the IGI. That was nearly 15 months after the birth – a long voyage! The Ramsey deaths register also gives the name as Eleanor Florence Joughin.
