John Joughin of Leodest Andreas bap 3-08-1716 was married twice.First to Joney Crenilt on 10-05-1740. She was buried 12-10-1750 I do not know when he married ANN(E) Joughin but she was buried Andreas 25-2-1785 and John Joughin buried 16-12-1788 at Andreas. She left a will as Philip was a minor and money was left for putting him to a trade.

Philip Joughin, ch 25 (or 26th) July1770 Andreas was one of two Philip Joughin boys christened about this time, the other being in 1768.. He married Christian Lace on 19-Nov 1791.at Andreas My belief is that she had been baptised at Andreas on 26 May 1765 to Peter Lace and Esther Kaneen of Andreas, though I have not verified this beyond doubt. Their marriage was on18 Feb 1753.

Philip & Christian Lace moved to Peel; she was buried 28-08-1825 or 1829 (I have seen bt=oth dates, but favour 1829) at German and Philip is shewn as residing with his son John Joughin in the 1841 census. He was.buried at German 26-12-1842. Goodwin comments that a Philip Joughin was living with Jogn Joughin in 1841 though there is no trace of him having a son by that name. Goodwin apparently was unaware that there were two Philip Joughin lads born within 2 years in Andreas, and assumed the Philip he found in Peel in 1841 was the 1768 one, who did not have a son John.

John Joughin, has two possible christening dates, 18-7-1803 or 8-01-1804 both at German. He became a master mariner, owning a Peel fishing lugger, a grocers shop and two houses in Peel. He married Catherine Clucas at German on 20-05-1826. He died on 20-11-1868 at Peel and was buried on 23-11-1868 and left a will. Catherine Clucas was said by Goodwin to be daughter of a grocer called David Clucas, but there does not seem to be any potential candidate. I am reasonably confident that her parents were Philip Clucas bap 30-11-1750 at German, married 15-7-1780 at Ballaugh and bd German 27-2-1816 and Jane Cainm ch Ballaugh 4-4-1759 Ballaugh, A Jane Clucas als Cain was bd at German 14-12-1807. Once again I should like to do more research to confirm this attribution.

Going on to John Joughin & Catherine Clucas’s family. They had children

John Joughin born 1831
Jane Agnes Joughin ```born 1831
Mary Ann Joughin, Ch 1-11-1835 German
Christian Esther Joughin 1837
Catharine Joughin ch 1844

Also see MI 441 German, in the old cemetery in Peel re Catharine J Joughin died 1842 age 14 and William died 1844 ages 3.

Apart from the two early deaths the other five children survived.

Jane Agnes married William Kewley and in 1861 was living in Douglas
Christian Esther m George Maley of Douglas on 22-09-1863 and living Braddan 1881, 2 children I know of Christiana Louisa Maley ch 27-12-1865
George Joughin Maley born Braddan 29-12-1866 chr 1-10-1868
G J Maley married Lucy James in the 1890s, and had at least two children Eva Lucy Maley 5-9-1897 and George Harold Maley 21-11-1898, who became a chemist in Douglas running Greensill’s shop.

I think that Eva Lucy Maley married Eddie Barnes, General manager of the MER.
Another Maley was a director of Maley & Taunton, a leading firm of tramway engineers in the UK.

Catherine Joughin, born 11 Jan 1844, married17 Dec 1868 Robert Henry Jackson.
