I attended a lecture by Peter Kelly ,a local historian &
Catholic given at the church at Ramsey last month for
a special anniversary of the current building . Designed by
Giles Gilbert Scott [also the designer of the iconic red
telephone box & one is in the Priest's garden as a recent
present.] All of the words you used AND many more were in the talk. Apparently many of the locals were fairly
tolerant at first but when numbers grew & a large church was
built trouble started as it did at Douglas. The church has
an excellent paperback book on salein the porch .£3 ???
