there were no undercover churches on Island - but few catholics until the Irish influx of the 1830's (tho some earlier from the 1790's)thus Mass was said in private houses and buildings (some history on manxnotebook) - there was quite a bit of bigotry especially from some ultraprotestants + certain parts of Methodists but by mid 1850's there were churches in 4 towns.
