Somewhat late in the day I have just found this thread. I am Finlo Cain, the son of Maj. Robert Cain. You mention your aunt Nina (the lady who worked with the horses) so I think you must be the daughter of Anna Butterworth (nee Costain). If so your mother lived next door to my Aunt Betty (Robert Cain's sister) in East Hoathly in Sussex for many years.

I don't know anything about doing the research but would be interested to know what you have found out - or find out.
