Thanks, Frances, but I'm sure that the Robert Cain who died on June 6th 1912 ( from the Memorial Notice link in your last message ) was a different Robert Cain, builder of Douglas.
This one I recognise as the father of Eleanor Maud Cain 1863-1943 ( she's listed as a mourner at the funeral )who married my great grandmother's brother, Joseph Edwin Clegg 1861-1925 in 1889.
Edwin was a dentist in Douglas and the family lived at 10 Finch Road. When I visited Douglas last year and found the house, I was stunned to see how large it is--way too big for 2 adults and 2 children to rattle around in.
Perhaps Nigel will know the answer to this question----was the building which now stands as 10 Finch Road the same building which was there from the late 1890s to the 1940s ? Although Maud was widowed in 1925, I think that she probably continued to live in the house.
The present building looks like offices, but the style of the building looks pretty old ---a bit like a chapel.
