I doubt if your Robert senior was anything more than a slip of the memory or pen by the harasssed vicar or clerk after the Sunday service (21 Oct 1838 was a Sunday) - the family moved away from Braddan a few years later and in those non-bureaucratic days would have little reason to check on the register.
