Hi Rob,

The image looks as though it was taken from the actual register rather than from the 1911? copy of the register. The copy is on the films available through the LDS FHCs, and these were used for the original IGI (pre-church members' contributions).

I have seen an occasional entry where the son's forename was also given to the father, or daughter's forename entered for the mother (or sometimes a sister's name, especially if the sister was having children baptised around the same time), but if these errors were original ones in the actual register I don't think anyone would be permitted to alter them. You can usually prove the correct name from wills or other sources.

As for your question about the accuracy of the registers, this would depend on the clerk or vicar and whether he left them for a few days and then wrote them up from memory, or had something else on his mind when entering the information, or whatever!
