Re: John Gelling and Isabella Cavendish

I did have Patrick and Jane Caine/Mabel Shimmin, thanks Frances. I’m just starting to get back into sorting out my family history again after a couple of years’ break, trying to pick up the dropped threads, probably more like dropped stitches. I had started by looking at Nigel’s post from 2003:

Re: Corjeag
Posted By: Nigel G. Crowe Date: Friday, 3 Jan 2003, at 6:24 a.m. In Response To: Re: Corjeag (Mary)

"The earliest Corjeag of Ballonney I have researched is Patrick, who also bought part of Ballakinnag. Patrick who d. 1663 had son Thomas and dau. Ann who were his administrators (Archdeacons Wills). Thomas d. 1675 and in his will mentioned a certain parcel of land which his father bought and gave him - part of Ballakinnag, left to his daughter Jony. She married John Juke (Duke) of Arbory and is mentioned in the 1703 Composition Book. Patrick, son of Thomas, held Ballonney and part of Ballakinnag in 1703.

Detailed research into the earlier rent rolls is needed. It is also necessary not to confuse the other family of Corjeag in Ballakilley, Kirk Michael. "

I laid out Nigel’s information like this: (drat, layout in word file doesn't seem to work here, according to the preview, so )

Patrick d.1663, Ballonney, bought part of Ballakinnag, father of

Ann, & Thomas d.1675, father of

Patrick of Ballonney & Ballakinnag (pt) 1703, and Jony of Ballakinnag (pt) 1703 m. John Juke, Arbory

I have a Patrick (presumably the grandson, above) who died in 1721 [Patrick Corjeag (Ballionney) buried Feb 15 1720/1 Kirk Michael], whose Will [Patrick Corjeag 1721-1 Mic E d 0106 369 1720-1722 (GL 700)] lists his children (and widow) as
Jony w/o Wm Garret,
Jane Corjeag,
married daughter Dorothy &
married son John [m/c for John s/o Patt Corjeage & Mable als Shimin with Christian Boddaugh dated 1719]

and a Will for a Mabel Corjeag als Shimin, [1728-3 Mic Shimmin E d 0106 372 1728-1729 (GL 702)] d. 1729 [Mabel Corjeag als Shimmin Ballionney bur. 7th Jan 1728/9 KM] which lists her children:
Jony Corjeag
Jane Corjeag
Dorothy w/o Wm Cowley
son John & marriage contract

I also have a Richard who died in 1749 [Richard Corjeage buryed January 30th 1748/9 KM] whose
Will [CORJEAGE Richard 1748-3 Mic E d 0106379] lists the children of his brother Patrick Corjeage as his next of kindred, namely
Joney w/o Wm Garret
Jane Corjeage
Dorothy Cowley
John Corjeage

It looks to me then that Thomas d.1675 must have had at least these 3 children, Patrick & Jony mentioned in his Will, plus Richard d.1749.

Further to this idea are you able to shed any more light on your reading of the Will of Ellin Corjeage als Callister d. 1666, w/o Thomas [1667 A w Cordeige Ellin – CALLISTER]
“Ch Patk (eldest son), Rich [there is a question mark], Jony (exex) + Ellin Cordeige;” [another daughter?]

Nigel had Patrick d.1663 as the father of this Thomas, on account of the purchase of pt of Ballakinnag, so the MC for Thos Cordeige & Ellin Quayle (1669 Will annexe) is interesting. Is this a different Thomas or am I just horribly confused in a mire of Thomases and Patricks? (1669 MC: Thomas Cordeige & Christian Sayle have son & daughter John & Margaret, & son Thomas who is to marry Ellin Quayle d/o Dollin Quayle & Kat Cannell [Manx Notebook])

Added to which, there is a 1654 German Will of John Cordaige mentioning wife Christian Moore, daughter Alice and brother Patrick – presumably the elder (or completely different) Patrick?

Perhaps I should have picked a less confusing part of the tree to get going in!

Incidentally, I haven’t been able to find a marriage, burial or will for the Jony Corjeag and John Juke/Duke mentioned by Nigel.
