Eric, I think you are on the correct course with Robert Gelling and I am inclined to agree with you that this Robert is the s/o of (and brother to ‘my’ William bpt Feb 28 1794) John Gelling / Elizabeth Cavendish. As you may remember we have had several discussions over the last year or so regarding this William and now Robert being the offspring of JG and EC and I am still convinced that this is the case. The other possible parents of William and Robert we considered were John Gelling and Elizabeth Oates but it is looking more and more in favour of JG and EC.

PS: You have 9 children as being born to Robert and Margaret Gelling (Crellin) but there are two ‘Robert’s’ – is this a duplication or did Robert #1 die young?
