Re: William CAIN born 1827 Douglas

Many thanks for all that info, Donna.

Do you know when Philip died ? Perhaps there were documents attached to his will showing which people signed to say that they'd received their inheritance.

Jackie, I was looking at the names and spacings of William and Selena's children. After firstborn Selena (baby's mother) and Mary (baby's maternal grandmother, but maybe also paternal grandmother ?) there was a 5 yr gap --- plenty of time for at least one more birth, so maybe there was a Matthias or a Philip who died before the 1861 census. I wonder why John wasn't baptised until he was 4 yrs old --- also, why Phoebe's name didn't appear in the burial index.

I found Bigwell Street and Queen Street in one of the maps of old Douglas, to see whether the 1851 Douglas households 114 and 115/116 of William and Selina Cain, and of Philip Cain at The Saddle Inn, could have both been at the junction of the 2 roads. Does anyone know whether 1 Bigwell Street would have been next to The Saddle ?
