As Avril (Roper) has volunteered me I will give you the curtesy of a brief reply!
Using original sources on the Isle of Man my manx research began in the 1950s.
A combination of myths, chinese whispers, erroneous speculation etc. have since built up concerning this couple such as who they were and what they did both before and after emigration.
Whilst living and working on the Island I came to the conclusion that the best way of conducting any manx genealogy is only by a complete and focused "One Name Study"!
Rachel Rooney nee REDHEAD died aged about 74 on 25th Aug. 1863 (not as you posted)
It was in McLaren Vale and she was buried at Willunga Cemetery, South Australia.
A stone/marker was erected and much later was photographed.
It was still in good condition early this century.
With reference to my earlier remarks:-
Looney is not my remit but I believe the following:-
John Looney was born c1788 and christened on 21st September 1788 at Maughold.
It is claimed by a direct descendant that he was the eldest of four known children to John Looney and Isabel Camaish.
According to papers John emigrated about 1838/9 to be found in several places around Adelaide in the early 1840s.
After establishing himself he sponsored his wife and some of their children to join him in 1843 and settle in McLaren Vale South Australia.
He later ( by 1869) owned and farmed 16 acres in Noarunga.
After the death of his first wife he remarried to Sarah, widow of Henry Alway on the 30th June 1864 at McLaren Vale.
He remained a farmer and died aged 84 from Diabetes on 09th September 1872.
The fourth known child of this couple was John Joseph Looney who was born/christened privately on 11th September 1819? in Maughold I.O.M.
He went to New Zealand and married Roseanna Vinecombe.
