Re: Radcliffe
In Response To: Re: Radcliffe ()

Yvonne,

Emily, Clara's elder half sister, married William Milne and had three girls and
Rothwell a boy who died young - we have a macabre, much treasured, "coffin
picture" of him.

The eldest Ethel May Milne married John (Jack) Sloan and had one daughter
Elizabeth (Betty). Betty Sloan died a few years ago, never married and was an
Headmistress until she retired. She had one of the widest circle of friends and
acquaintances I have ever known someone to have. Anywhere you went in the
Greater Merseyside area she was known and respected - and if you mentioned
almost any local name she could come back with stories of their exploits. She
had a dog Django (after Django Rheinhardt the 1920's Jazz guitarist whom
Betty adored I understand). Django as a dogs name was inherited by my wife
who as a child loved walking the dog in Birkenhead Park when she visited Betty.

The second daughter Elsie is my wife's maternal grandmother and married
Frederick Mason. Elsie and Fred had Stuart, Patricia, and Michael. All have
issue.

The third daughter Mona married Arthur Smith and they had one son Peter.
Now we have lost touch with Peter. We do know he married a Doreen, had
two children (at least) went to Africa where they adopted two more. The whole
family returned to the UK and was in touch with Betty briefly ... but then they
moved and contact was lost... If anyone knows this Peter or any of his family
please let me know.

I have various photographs of all the people I mention above. I also have some
further details of Clara Radcliffe's sisters Ann (Cissie) who never married and
lived all her life on Merseyside. Eleanor (Poppy) and brother (Jack) who both
emigrated to Canada where they married and had children - but others on this
discussion group can provide you more information about them than I.

Best wishes - Bernard Diaz.
