Re: Radcliffe
In Response To: Re: Radcliffe ()

The 1851 census entry I posted is correct except for John (Thomas) who I think could be entered as 3 Mths rather than Brian's 3 Dec. which I assumed was his birth or bapt date. There is a lot of scribbling over the "Dec" or "Mths" which makes it unreadable, although Brian was better at this than I am. John Thomas Radcliff's bapt in the IGI extracted entry is 15 Dec. 1850 Ramsey, so the 3 Dec could be a birth date. If Mths, it is written differently to the John Lace entry at the top of the page ("4 months"). The census was taken on the night of March 30/31st.

The 1841 census was as written previously. In 1861 they were in Dale Street Ramsey, Patrick Radcliffe 40 Tailor b.Andreas; wife Ellen Radcliffe 39 b.Andreas; and children Elinor J Radcliffe 15 scholar b.Andreas; Margaret A Radcliffe 14, Sarah Radcliffe 8 & Charles P Radcliffe 3 all scholars, all b.Ramsey.

In 1871 at 3 Dale Street Ramsey: Patrick Radcliffe 48 Master Tailor b.Andreas; wife Ellinor Radcliffe 47 b.Andreas; and children Charles Radcliffe 13, Richard Radcliffe 9, Emma Radcliffe 7, Clara Radcliffe 5, & Elizabeth Radcliffe 18 Months. All scholars except for Eliz., and all b.Ramsey.

In 1881 3 Dale St Ramsey: Patrick RADCLIFFE 57 Tailor; wife Ellinor RADCLIFFE 58; and children Emma RADCLIFFE 17 Milliner; Clara RADCLIFFE 15 Dressmaker, all b.IOM.

But where was John Thomas aged 10 in 1861? I can't find him under either John or Thomas, b.Ramsey.

Carol has transcribed Patrick Radcliffe's will, which is at: www.iomfhs.im/lawsons/LawsonBMD/twill/1889_007.html
