Historic Houses

Introduction

The inspiration for this page is the book Historic Homes of the Isle of Man compiled by J. Kitto and published by Executive Publications Douglas (ISBN 0-9516846-1-2) 1990.

The colour photographs by John Kitto are excellent (some are outstanding) however much of the research was based on notes by Mona Douglas, possibly for Manx Life which carried a series of articles on such houses during the 1970's - her undoubted talents in poetry, prose, song and dance tended to encourage a good tale rather than somewhat more prosaic scholarship.
