Milntown

Ancestral home of the Christian Family, and originally known as Altadale, the name Milntown being given when the adjacent property was aquired and merged into the original holding c1520.

The battlemented facade was added in early 1830 by the then head of family John Christian when the house was rebuilt (the extent of which is uncertain) - possibly by Thomas Brine.

Mates IoM Illustrated, 1st Edition 1899 includes two interior shots and states that the present occupieer, Mrs W.B. Christian, "receives paying guests to reside in this most charming and romantic of localities".
