Re: pendlebury
In Response To: Re: pendlebury ()

Hi All

I can offer a little more pre-dating Jeremiah. Jeremiah's father farmed in the Barrow Bridge area of Bolton. I received the following from Iris Diggle which she sent me in May 2004 - "The Pendlebury family are one of the oldest living at Halliwell. Members of the family are mentioned as being de Pendlebury of Halliwell early as 13th Century. The name was prominent amongst the farming communities of Halliwell, Hecton & Horwoch. The P's of the 18th Century farmed Sheephouse, Sheepcote & Pendlebury Farms which stand to this day."

Karen - thank you for the reference to the sketches of Pendlebury farm - I have had look at the artists website.

I have Jeremiah born abt 1770 in Halliwell and married to Catherine Pendlebury (yes - the same surname!) on 11th October 1791 at St Mary's Church, Dean by Bolton Lancs. I have Jeremiah's parents as Jeremiah Pendlebury and Alice Hodgekinson. For this Jeremiah I have parents Jeremy Pendlebury and Betty Lowe and Jeremy's parents I have as yet another Jeremiah Pendlebury and Ann? Unfortunately no dates researched yet for these last two generations.
Catherine Pendlebury's parents I have as Robert Pendlebury married in 1773 to Alice Holt or Hart.
Going back to Jeremiah and Catherine married in 1791 - I also have limited additional details back to 1660's on the family of their daughter-in-law Martha Barrow who married their son James (b 1/3/1803) and is mother to our James Pendlebury who moved his family to the IOM after his returned from the American Civil War. Happy to exchange more details with anyone interested.
