Re: Robert Cain, carter
In Response To: Re: Robert Cain, carter ()

Hi JC

I met my grand father, Robert Henry Cain, as a child about 3 times. He had remarried a woman they called Peggy (Celia Taggart). I didn’t like my grandfather, who was also known as Harry.

My grandmother Elizabeth Cain passed away April 1952 and I was born in the December of that year, so sadly I never met her.

I knew Lydia - who also known as aunt Lily and she lived at 3 Holly Grove in the 1960s. We lived in 13 Holly Grove. My mother and Lydia didn’t speak with each other, but I knew she was a Kennaugh, and she married Richard in Barrow-in-Furness.

I didn’t know of Alice, although thinking back there was a Maud that was often spoken of, and as Alice is Alice Maud, that must be her.

The Robert Henry Cain in 1911 census is my grandfather. I know that I found the following a bit odd. My grandfather’ army papers say he was a carter when he enlisted, but that is my grandfather and not my great grandfather.

They say my Grandmother Elizabeth (or Lizzy) was in the Salvation Army and that she was a songster. Also word is my Grandfather played an instrument in the Salvation Army.

There is a Kennaugh who is trying to do his family tree, but he keeps asking me for info as he is stuck with the Cain side. They seem to be all named either John and Robert or Henry.
