Re: Emily Christian JOUGHIN b.1851/52

Hello Jean,

Many thanks for all your interesting theories, and for going to the trouble of looking them up.

I think your John Christian, Hatter, could well be Margaret Christian's father, as given on her marriage record, and that you are right about her illegitimacy. Having her father coming from Maughold is certainly possible, with her records saying she was born in adjoining Lonan.

But I am doubtful that Emily b.Douglas in censuses would have come from a Ramsey family?
Brian Lawson posted:
1861, Douglas, district 7, schedule 319, Drumgold Street
James Joughin, head, married, 63, miller, Andreas
Margaret, wife, married, 40, Lonan
Emily, grand daughter, 9, Douglas
Robert, grand son, unmarried, 1, Douglas

There were many Kerruish families in Maughold & Ramsey, and quite a few Kerruish women had Christian as a second name, so unfortunately that isn't significant. Any ideas from Douglas records?

Thanks again for the help.

Sue
