Still recall the Balqueen with great affection.Every August from 1951-58(age 8-15) My dad played piano at the Sunday concert/singalong. I had a big crush on our waitress Ivy.My hero was John the fisherman,(boat trip thru the sugarloaf) married to the cashier. Fred Hoyle reading out the activities in his broad scouse accent!! Fancy Dress night, Sunday walk to the sound, Smoky Joes cafe. Anyone remember my mates Arden Yates and Charlie Peck from Merchant Taylors singing skiffle at the concert? Gamblin' man man man!! Priceless !
