If you look at Brian Lawson's IoM census indexes you can see whether he appears, and where and when.
His wife and their children would be entered under the same number for Parish, Piece, Folio, and usually Page.
1841 "L" is at www.iomfhs.im/lawsons/census/c41-l.html and I can't see a John of the right age, sorry.
