Re: Cavendish/Corjeag - again!

Hi Thelma,

Thank you for your message with its lovely, if ultimately sad, story of the runaway couple. I wonder if you have seen Agnes' father's will, written in February 1880, where he leaves to "my Daughter Agnes wife of William Cannell of Liverpool the sum of Fifty Pounds"?

The Corjeage/Cavendish who went to America was John son of Thomas Cavendish and Margt Killey baptised in Jurby, May 23rd 1813. John arrived in America around 1840, married and had a large family of which there are hundreds of descendants today, some of which I have contact with. I have heard from one of the American cousins that John's fourth child, Thomas Cavendish, born 16 Jan 1849, died in the Civil War aged 16 on 19 May 1865. It would be interesting to know if this is the person you have a photo of.

John's father (Thomas) was the grandson of the John Corjeage & Christian Boddaugh I mentioned in my previous message. Interestingly, although Thomas, baptised Corjeage, used 'Cavendish' at his wedding, in his children's baptisms, censuses and his will, he & his wife are still buried as 'Corjeage'.

I was very interested to hear of your photos of early family members as the earliest one I've got is of my grandfather who died in 1938.
