Re: Cavendish/Corjeag - again!
In Response To: Re: Cavendish/Corjeag - again! ()

Hi THelma

I must be your 2nd cousin as I am a great grandson of Ann Corjeag and William Crowe. My Dad's Uncle Philip C. had Corjeag as his third name and as you probably know John Cannell has it as his second. The name is getting forgotten by the general population, although one of the Cavendishes is getting pretty well known.

I have got two sets of notes that John Cannell wrote down, and they are pretty good on the last 100 years of the family.

My latest theory is that Corjeag does not originate from "son of the black-eyed one" but "son of the dweller on the dunged land of the unfree" however this was probably not Ballonna because the family may have only moved there after that date. In 1490 there was a family named McQuartage in the farm of Shaughlaigue-e-Quiggin further south in the parish, and more just over the boundary into German at Skerrisdale.
