Re: Philip Cain
In Response To: Re: Philip Cain ()

What are the dates for your Adam Cain? I am researching some early Cowins of Michael and Ballaugh who were connected with early Cains of Michael. A Phillip Cain and a Joney Cloage (Clague) had a son Adam Cain who was christened 1683 Michael. Phillip Cain may not have been the father of this particular Adam Cain because a John Cain and Joney Cloage were presented for reasons that might
constitute naughty language on this board. It was also noted that Phillip Cain was jealous of them.

Phillip Cain may have died 1689 Michael
and Joney Cloage then had a son to Jo. Cowin (no record of christenng or marriage) ) This son John Cowin died in 1741 Ballaugh leaving a will in which he claims his half brother Adam Cain owed him money.

Joney Cowin als Clague died in 1738 Ballaugh and in her will mentioned both her sons Adam Cain and John Cowin. Adam Cain also owed his mother money.

Jo. Cowin sr may have been chr. 1645 Michael and died 1692 Ballaugh leaving a will naming his son John Cowin who may have been born circa 1691 Michael.

A William Cowin chr. 1693 Michael parents Jo. Cowin and Joney Clague is a puzzle. If he is the son of the above mentioned John Cowin sr. & Joney Clauge then he was barely conceived before his father died in 1692.

There are number of Cain wills that need to be examined to determine how well this story of the early Cains & Cowins will hold together. For example there is a will of Adam Cain 1733 Michael which might provide further evidence of the Cowin-Cain connection.
