Re: William Cowle & Ellen Brew (Santon)

Frances
Thank you very much for your help - we have the CD but had missed the Lib Assed and Lib Vas entries.

In 1643 we have at entry 33 Christo Brew for Robt Brew which seems to be the Balnahown land. The previous entry (32) is for intacks in the fells Christo Brew for Gilbt Brew - this is presumably the land purchased from Fargher but who is Gilbert?

When you go forward to 1691 the corresponding entries seem to be 31 &32 and are now both held by Ellin Brew & Wm Cowle.
On 32 the lives in being are Jane Brew 59 and Ellin Brew 52. Presumably Ellin is the one married to Wm Cowle so she is born abt 1639. On 31 the life in being is Thomas Brew 60. The interesting questions are then
Who are Jane & Thomas?
How did the intack descend to Ellin?

Some time in the MM is needed to look at the 1629 marriage contract and the wills. You refer to a 1647 will for Margaret Brew nee Kermode - I can't see that referenced anywhere - presumably it is Santon but do you know whether it is Arch or Episc?

Thanks again for the help
