I was once told that a marble clock had been seen bearing a plaque commemorating this first crossing of Douglas Bay. I wonder who would present such a clock. It encourages me to think that this was a remarkable and unique enough event to warrant such a commemoration, and that it must surely have been reported in local papers - but when! I have been advised that the swimsuit could well be a Victorian or Edwardian style.
