Thanks Viv for a very interesting reply. It would seem logical that the B on the swimsuit would stand for F. Bruce, but although there are some Bruces on the peripheral twigs of my tree, I wouldn't expect either of my parents to have a photo of one of them. I notice some of the swimmers in your report were from the 'Victoria" swimming club - I wonder if there were other clubs, perhaps one with a name beginning with B? I don't know where something like that would be recorded.
