Re: Starkey/Lewin
In Response To: Re: Starkey/Lewin ()

The earlist mention I can find for William Starkey in NZ is on the 1896 Electoral Roll, he would have been 28, he married in Christchurch in 1900 at age 32. The IOM 1891 Census you shared with me had him with his uncle Jacob Lewin and brother James Starkey, age 23, so I have a window of time between 1891 & 1896 when he emigrated to NZ, because by the time of the IOM census 1901 he was no longer with his uncle. He could have been elsewhere in the UK, or Australia. I have trawled through incoming passenger lists on Denise & Peters site, but was lonely looking at incoming from the UK, not from Australia, or elsewhere for that matter. There are other passenger lists site I have yet to explore.

When you mention Family History Centres do I google a FHC for IOM? When you say I can view records on film readers what exactly do you mean, is this online? for a fee? Sorry but like I have said, I am new to this endeavour and much of the shorthand used by authors in this forum I have to google so I know what people are talking about! Yep, complete novice, that's me. I have tried Papers Past but with no luck. I will try again with this new year range though.
