Re: Starkey/Lewin
In Response To: Re: Starkey/Lewin ()

Marriage details from Lawson's:

STARKEY, James Joseph 27 Apr 1909 D mar 82 JENKINSON, Elizabeth Gertrude

As I was concentrating on the STEPHENS side of things, I didn't get or view birth or baptism records for JJ Starkey.

Their grave is Plot A 16 at Marown.

James Joseph Starkey's burial entry on Lawson's is:

STARKEY, James Joseph 50 Marown 19 Mar 1915

1915 - 50 = c1865, but more probably 1864.

No sign of this birth on the IOM on IGI. I guess a trawl through the Marown registers would have to be done (or possibly Braddan).
1871 census for 7 year old says Braddan, but that information was presumably given by grandparents rather than a parent.
1881 census for 17 year old says Marown.
1891 census for 26 year old says IOM. At this point he is living at property 69. At property No. 79 is his future wife 17 year old Elizabeth Stephen.
1901 census he is mysteriously only 30. Born Marown. Living at Prop No. 22 (The Lion). HIs future wife (now Elizabeth Jenkinson) runs a shop at Prop No. 29, The Braaid. Her husband is not there.
1911 I didn't search for him.

His parentage is not known to me. His mother was presumably a daughter of Charles and Isabella Lewin. Was it the unmarried Eleanor aged 29? Or had both his parents died or perhaps left the Island for work?

I didn't need to track William, so I haven't got any info on him.

Sorry, if that doesn't help much.
