Re: Starkey/Lewin
In Response To: Re: Starkey/Lewin ()

Hello, I did some Stephens/Starkey research a while back.

Stuggadhoo near The Braaid seemed to be a main centre for the families I was looking at. The Braaid is right on the border of 3 parishes, Marown to the North, Malew to the South West and Santon to the South East. No.1 Stuggadhoo was originally The Lion public house.

I had an Elizabeth Gertrude Stephen who married a William Jenkinson in 1899. He then died in 1903, and she then married a James Joseph Starkey (born about 1864/5) in 1909. He died in 1915. JJS (born Braddan), aged 7, is in the 1871 census as a Grandson of Charles Lewin, aged 60, of Stagadhoo. JJS had a brother called William aged 4 in 1871.

There was a Hilda Margaret Starkey who married at Marown in 1940. I am not sure, but strongly suspect that fits into the tree somewhere. There is a family link to Slieau Chairn, which is yet another property in that area.

Let me know if you want any more of my information.
