I agree with this possibility. Nowadays a draft is made by the Registrar who then carefully checks with you spellings etc. It would seem in the past they filled in the
actual cert. straightaway & mistakes just had to be crossed out & annotated with a number[which explains the alteration]
I have acquired a Manx birth cert filled in ----Name Mrs Mary
"Kelly" etc as the mother introduced herself Husband"s name Mr John Kelly THEN mother admitted no her husband was away abroad & not the father/ & Husband's name crossed out.Father & his wife " adopted" baby.
