Woods Atlas
In Response To: Re: Lib Vast etc ()

I'm now wondering about a specific case in Wood's Atlas, which I'm hoping someone can help me with.

It says that the valuations were completed in 1864: I have a Will transcription for Thomas Cavendish granted probate in May 1863 where Thomas bequeaths his land in Ballaugh to his son Thomas junior and his land in Michael to his son Richard. Woods Atlas of 1867 has Intack in Ballaugh and Pt of Ballakinnag in Michael both with Proprietor 'Thomas Cavendish'.

Can someone suggest what I can conclude from this? Was this valuation made before Thomas snr died or did it take a long time for the will to be executed? Could Thomas jnr have taken control of both the Ballaugh & Michael properties - he appears in censuses in Ballaugh but Richard is always in Douglas, not Michael.

Any suggestions? And is there anything else I can deduce or pursue from this, other than that 'Thomas Cavendish was listed as proprietor of x & y in 1867'?
