Re: richard radcliffe

Hi Carol,

I also had trouble finding them on Ancestry after 1851. In 1841 they were in Liverpool (Richard 30, Ann 35, William 6, Ann 4, Margt 5), and in 1851 they were at Kirkdale Lancs, No.6 Court (Richard 42, Ann 51 or 57 - crossed through - both b. IOM, and the children all b.Liverpool: William 15, Ann 14, Richard 9, Jane L 7, Catharine 5).
It was because of the place given in 1851 & 1861 "6, Court", which apparently was off Boundary Street in Kirkdale, that I was able to find them in Findmypast which has a facility to search by address.

I forgot to say yesterday that the numerous empty lines around Richard Radcliffe's entry in the 1871 census were uninhabited buildings - presumably the ones he was guarding as night watchman. If so, he was entered in the census at work as well as at home.

Perhaps someone who knows Liverpool could tell us why "Court" off Boundary Street, or that end of Boundary Street itself, became full of abandoned buildings between 1861 and 1871?

Re. Elizabeth K being the daur of William Radcliffe and Margaret Harris, when was she born? Because if the same age as John James (as in the 1871 census) they can't have been siblings unless twins.

JJ wasn't with Jane in 1871 - see previous message - but in 1881 he is with her family as a boarder. At 1 Niel Street, Everton! No. 3 Neil St was where Richard, mother Ann, John J Nephew 12 & Elizabeth K Niece 12 were in 1871.
