Re: Corrins in the States
In Response To: Re: Corrins in the States ()

Hi Sue,

Life gets more confusing. I have always had problems accessing Brian Lawson's page for Corrin burials in the F-L range, and found my link was wrong. When I did so, I came up with the following entry

Corrin, Henry William 68 German 17 Nov 1901.

The age would fit pefectly for the guy living at Market St in 1901 census, as he was christened in late April so his birthday was probably just after the 1901 census. This has to be the man, but raises the problem of who was the gentle soft spoken man that my Mother vaguely recalled as a tiny child. She had a clear recollection of many events from when she was 3 and some things from when she was 2 so the man she recalled was so vague that he had to have died by the time she was 3 at latest, ie 1909, but however good her memory was, she could not remember someone who died when she was Minus Five !!!

I feel confident that the Henry WIlliam Corrin bd at German on 17 Nov 1901 is the guy, but once again, fresh questions open up !!!

Its great to get at the truth, but don't you wish that life went smoothly. Henry William and Mary Ann now seem to be sorted out, but I have an elderly relative that my mother recalled who had to have died c1907-08 to explain away now, and there is a nightmare coincidence which must have thrown her and me, for she always believed that the old man she recalled was HWC, as there was seemingly some connection with the States.

My Mother recalled a wicket hamper at Seamount, which contained a US flag (which I have and has the Correct number of Stars for the Civil War), a Confederate States $10 bill (which we have) and two items we do not have, a pistol and a Civil War Uniform. She associated the uniform and hamper with the elderly man, and this has always puzzled me as Henry William Corrin would have been old enough to have fought in the Civil War, but was presumably in the IOM, as he married Mary Ann on 16-06-1862. Christiana was born in March 1863, so that again reinforces a summer 1862 in the IOM. Charlotte C was born 25 June 1865 so by late Sept 1864, HWC was on the Island, which leaves Mar 1863- Sept 1864 unaccounted for.

If he felt a burning passion to take part in the CIvil War I cannot see him leaving a new wife within days of their marriage and being allowed to return in less than 18 months.

In some ways, I have been a bit lazy over the uniform, but the latest discovery means she could not have remembered Henry William, so who did she remember, and is he related to the uniform.
