Hi Mary - you did, and thankyou, I got them safely. What it tells me is her father's name (which is a huge breakthrough!) and it's him I'm now having trouble tracing back. I think (for some reason I can't quite fathom!) that Robert may have been born in Ireland, but Margaret, his wife could well be Manx - what was her surname before marriage?
Sandra - thanks for the info - why on earth could I not find it?? I will look further into it, and see if I can get even further back, especially on Margaret's side, if she proves to be Manx, because I believe Irish records were destroyed at some point, making searches like this very difficult, if not impossible.
