JOUGHIN KINRED KNEAL COWLE DOUGHERTY, Andreas
In Response To: Re: Joughin Family ()

Hello Viv,

These are "my" Joughins (and also Gail's husband's ones), from one of two separate Joughin lines in Andreas. I have two Joughin ancestors who married each other, with one coming from the Leodist line (John JOUGHIN 1716-1788), and one from the other, Balladaughan, line (Ann JOUGHIN 1731-1785). On Familysearch, Ancestry, and various other online trees the two lines have been muddled and merged, so I spent a lot of time separating them.

As Philip wrote, the line you are asking about farmed in Leodest, and in Ballalettis, Andreas.
D.S. Dugdale wrote: "Lettis or Ballalettis is not the same place as Leodist but is next door. Ballalettis is part of West Ballacunner in the treen of Leodist, not Alia Leodist."

William JOUGHIN b.c 1623 (aged 69 in 1692 Composition book) married Margery KINRED/KINREAD, who was buried in Andreas June 1681. Let me know if you'd like any more recent information, and whether you descend from Ewan Howland and Margaret Joughin?

As you can see, I sorted out the families by looking at marriage contracts, par regs, wills, etc., and sibling records as well as the main line, which often provided the proof.
