The Isle of Man Examiner of 1 February 1890 reported the annual meeting of this club. Founded to promote swimming as a sport for men, and using the baths in Victoria Street, the club had 176 members in its first year, 143 of them senior and 33 of them junior. As the schoolboys challenge cup had ' excited great interest in swimming amongst the juveniles' the committee decided to consider the question of engaging 'a professor of swimming' for coaching purposes and to again obtain for schoolboys the cheap entrance price of the last season,

DOUGLAS SWIMMING CLUB.
AN ADJOURNED MEETING of the above Club will be held at the BATHS. Victoria street, on MONDAY Evening next, October 23. at 8 p.m., for the Election of Officers, and other business. All interested in this healthy suport are cordially invited to attend.

DOUGLAS SWIMMING CLUB.
We have before us a copy of the rules of the above club, which are based on the rules of the Liverpool Swimming Club, with such alterations only as circumstances render necessary or advisable. Judging from the businesslike tone and completeness of the rules, we would predict for the club a successful future. There are two or three points especially in the rules which we would commend to the notice of young men, and those are rules 5 and 10 - "That the annual subscription be 1s.," and " that every asistance be given by the competent members of the club to those members learning to swim." The subscription is very low, expressly to enable young swimmers to join. The club sbould be a favourite one, not only with the youth of the town, but with all who are fond of a plunge in the "briny" ; and we hope to see, next summer, many, if not all, of the local frequenters of the "creek" (Port Skillion) wearing the colour and monogram of the club. The generous manner in which Messrs Thomas Lightfoot and Son have met the wishes of the club by opening the baths three days a week for the winter months, has given great satisfaction.
