Founded in 1889 as a boys club for the Roman Catholic parish of St. Mary's, Douglas, the leader, Father Crosbie, struggled on for three years fighting the difficulties of repressing the 'animal high spirits' of the members within the bounds of a club room.
The gift of a playing field in Douglas, in 1893, and the coming to the parish of Father John Miller, 'an old Associationist' from Preston, solved the discipline problem and in the formation of a Junior team admitted into the Isle of Man Football Association in 1894, led to the foundation of St. Mary's Football Team, still in action in the Manx League.
