[from A.M Harrision's Descriptive List of Insular Societies]
The Cronkbourne Cricket Club was founded as the village cricket club for the industrial village outside Douglas built for the workers at Moore's Sailcloth manufactory by A.W.Moore, the Manx historian, politician and sportsman shortly after he left his historical studies at Cambridge to return to the Island to run the family business.
The Examiner printed an account of the Club's twenty-first anniversary celebration in the issue of 18 July 1896. Representatives of all the other insular cricket clubs were invited and the following were specifically mentioned: the Asylum Cricket Club, the Douglas Cricket Club, the Peel Cricket Club, and the Victoria College Cricket Club.
