The annual meeting of the Castletown Anglican Dorcas Society, organised on the same model as the Douglas Methodist Society , was held in Castletown Town Hall on 16 February and reported in the Mona's Herald of 23 February 1859. The typical, well -organised tea meeting, chaired by the High Bailiff of Castletown, flanked by two clergymen on either side of him, started with the High Bailiff's 'high eulogium on the society followed with the report of the past year. The society had received £14 0s. 6d. and distributed 180 garments to the poor. This was deemed discouraging but William Gill, the Vicar of Malew expressed his sympathy for the society's welfare and most emphatically expressed his hearty concurrence with the principle of such a valuable institution as the Castletown society.
After some rather two-edged remarks about the performance of one of the best choirs heard in Castletown and the speaking of the two preachers from Douglas the account closed with the Rev. E. Ferrier's warm congratulations 'to the ladies for their zealous support towards the distressed poor of the town' and after the national anthem and the benediction, the company separated, highly gratified.
