Re: James Brown of Bride 1822
In Response To: James Brown of Bride 1822 ()

My family, like yours, were "comeovers" from Scotland to the IOM. My ggg grandfather farmed in Bride from 1800? to 1838 when he died. He is likewise buried at Andreas. So there were other Scots in the area which might have been a supportive element. Bride may also have had available farming land at the time or needed labour. In tracing the linkage to Scotland there were some things that were helpful, namely: the information on the MI helped to locate my ggg g'fathers birth parish and dates; my ggg g'father's will was available on the IOMFHS site; there are many Scottish FHS's that are very helpful if you can locate the area of origin. Some FHS's in Scotland have researchers to help delve more deeply for you. I hope my very satisfying experience along this path will prove of some help. Good luck!
