Re: James Brown of Bride 1822
In Response To: Re: James Brown of Bride 1822 ()

Robert, is the connection that your grandfather Arthur Brown was a son of John
Mearns Brown of Braust and Isabella Christian, Ballakey? As you probably know,
Isabella's mother was also a Cowell, Eliza (1789 Lezayre - 1867 Bride).

Hi Philip,

Yes the above is correct re Arthur Brown. and I did know of Eliza Cowle 1789 to 1867, but I had not traced the Lezayre connection. If she moved from Lezayre to Bride she was a well travelled girl for those days ! DO you have anything more on her, as her parents are currently a blank.

The main thrust of the query was the hope that someone might have some idea about Scottish James Brown, born c1779. All we have to go on is that he was farming the Kimmeragh by 1822, and from the family legend had been on the Island for a while, had gone back to Scotland where heart troubles were diagnosed, and he returned to spend his last days on the Island, BUT, James and Brown are common SCOTS NAMES, so how on earth do I get any further back. That is what stumps me.
