Unfortunately I am not familiar with Queensland records (each state has their own), but I use this website to see what should be on the certs: www.jaunay.com/bdm.html

I think it is essential to have bought copies of the marriage and death certs before trying to find earlier records, especially when there is a change of countries.

Australian certs are usually far more informative than English/Scottish ones, so I would never assume that they are not worth looking at when the smallest snippet might help.

As you can see from that website, with luck one or both of the certs, as well as names, ages, and places of birth (sometimes with full address), should include both mother's and father's names and the father's occupation.

Grace, the images can be ordered online for $20 each. I have ordered ones from Vic which are immediately available to print out, and remain there for a specific length of time which they will tell you on the site.
