Hi Mary,

About The Curragh, I suggest you have a look at the FHS Maughold gravestone inscriptions when you get a chance? There seem to be a lot of them for these Corkills in both Douglas and Maughold.

When I double-checked the records, back from Edward in Douglas, to try to distinguish between the two Robert/Mary families, I collected a lot of details - apologies that bits of them have been on this thread before, but I was trying to get them into some sort of order!

Edward CORKILL’s first wife was Elizabeth GAWNE, married Braddan 25 July 1882, father James Gawne.
Edward’s father was Robert Corkill, farmer, in both marriage registrations. [IGI]
Elizabeth Corkill was buried in Braddan aged 27, 13 Aug 1885.
Her last child Robert James Corkill who was born on 15 July 1885 was buried in Braddan aged 2 days, on 18 July 1885. [BL index]

Edward CORKILL married secondly Alice Jemima STARLING 7 Nov.1892, her father William Starling. [IGI]
Alice Jemima Corkill aged 81, buried Douglas Borough Cemetery 13 Dec 1947.
Edward Corkill aged 76 years, buried Douglas Borough Cemetery 6 Dec 1930. [BL index]

Father Robert CORKILL , 75 yrs., [Residence] Braddan, was buried in Maughold on 11 Oct 1896.

Robert Corkill was a widower in the 1891 census, living with his daughter and grandchildren.
Mary CORKHILL 65 yrs, Maughold, was buried in Maughold June 6 1883.

In censuses Mary [CLAGUE] Corkill was b. 1818-1821 in Maughold. She and Robert Corkill married in Maughold on 13 Jan 1844.
She was likely to be Mary eldest daughter of Thomas Clague & Margaret Stowell bapt Maughold 22 Aug 1819.
Their children were:
CLAGUE John [son of] Thomas Clague/ Margaret Stole [bapt]Parish Church [Maughold] 26 Oct 1817
*CLAGUE Mary Thomas Clague/ Margaret Stowell Parish Church 22 Aug 1819*
CLAGUE Margaret Thomas Clague/ Margaret Stowell Parish Church 29 Apr 1821
CLAGUE Jane Thomas Clague/ Margaret Stowell Parish Church 15 Jun 1823

Thomas Clague & Margaret Stowell married in Maughold 3 Aug 1816.
A Thomas CLAGUE died of smallpox, and was buried in Maughold on May 5 1823.
William Kermeen & Margaret Clague married 21 Nov 1826?
OR Edward Gelling & Margaret Stowell married 8 Aug 1835, Widower & widow.
OR not. There were other Stowell marriages.

John Corkill, father of Robert 1821-1896 was aged 64 in the 1861 census, (not found 1871), and aged 83 at his burial on July 20 1879.
There were two possibilities:
John John Corkill/Christian Cannell 13 Dec 1795
John William Corkill/Esther Kneale 21 Jan 1797 Private baptism

- But there is a John Corkil aged 51 (could he be 59?) with mother Christian Corkil widow aged 81, and wife Elinor in the 1851 census, a farmer of 6 acres at Ballasloe. Wife Elinor's age is given as 60, so it seems strange that he would take several years off his own age - but it could be a faded "9".
His children in 1851 fit the ones I gave for the couple before in a message under "Edward Corkill", minus the twins and the eldest children. John 24 Ag Lab, James 18 Ag Lab, & Daniel 16 Joiners Apprentice, all b.Maughold.

Christian CORKILL, 81, BallaSloe, buried Maughold 17 May 1853.

Another Corkill farm for you, Mary! Constance Radcliffe writes about the Corkills there in the 19th century increasing their holding, and that "the old Ballasloe house still stands by the road" (1979). Also that several parcels (of land) towards Magher Breck were bought by different owners - so it looks as though all their farms were in the same area (in The Curragh?).

John Corkhill & Elinor Cowin married in Maughold on 4 Nov 1815.
Elinor was aged 60 in the 1851 census, and 67 in the 1861 census.
Probably Elinor daur of William Cowin & Joney Callister 21 Jul 1790. Private baptism.
Elinor CORKILL aged 71, B. Sloe, buried Maughold Jul 22 1861.
John CORKILL, 83 yrs, Maughold, buried Jul 20 1879 (with the gravestone, last message).

I still have more - with one thing leading to another.

Sue
