Re: Applying for death certificates

Hello Joan, Frances & Sue,

Life in the slow lane generates lots of reasons to apologise for my tardiness in all sorts of things, so please accept my apology for being late responding - again!

Joan,
I was not confused, and read the situation much as you described it. I appreciate your kind offer to check out some reference numbers but would prefer, if you've no objection, to take out a raincheck on that until such time as I know which path I'm taking, However, I would like to know the number of the film you're using so that I can check it against the Family History Catalogue and thereby save myself from the morass of film numbers under the search term 'Isle of Man, Kirk-German'. I have decided that I'd better reaquaint myself with the local FHC even it it is on the other side of town.

Frances
thanks for the information and advice re the 1911 transcription which I have now ordered from David Christian. I have the bound 2-volume version but Book 1 has 11 Gorry entries only, and Book 2 has 95. I've no doubt that there were many more Gorry burials than this, and I look forward to making a comparison with the disk.

Sue
I thought brew was something you did to tea, or drank in a pub, LOL. I was impressed by the table of Brews, but moving my eyes to the bottom of the screen, as you suggested, I was gob-smacked for I'd no idea that facsimilies of Manx BMD certs existed in a publicly accesible database. I have used a similar one for my Liverpool Gorrys, Marriage & Banns only 'though, regretfully, I'd already bought Marriage Certs for most of the entries for my family members. But, I was able to pick up a very few free crumbs. I've been searching the Family History Library and picked out quite a few databases that might be useful judging by their titles but have found no way of determining just what information is included. What is the number of the film you used to produce the Death Cert transcript printed at the bottom of the page? It may not be the one I need but presumably the format of the number would be a pointer to related ones.

To all you ladies, my great thanks for you helpfulness

regards

Alan
