Gordon, quite often a birth was announced without the baby's name - just son or daughter.

I got the above entries from the FIBIS database (Families in British India Society) - there are lots lots more to look through, but be prepared to search by initial only at times and to take a stab (e.g. just the surname). And don't do the Quick Search where often nothing comes up. - You need to "Find a person" (or other specific search).
