Re: John Wade 1797 House name?
In Response To: Re: John Wade 1797 House name? ()

Yes, I wondered that, too, but based on the the fact that even in 1871, soon after the 1870 marriage of James Wade to "Louisa Jane Greatorex", the name Laura was used for the 1871 baptism of James Greatorex Wade, plus this extract from your earlier message:

"Yes Greatorex is a significant name in my family...Both my GF Cyril and my father Norman (1914 - 2006) used the surname Greatorex-Wade (at times)...In fact I have copy of a 1905 reference for Cyril referring to him as "my nephew" and signed by E.F Greatorex (Bar-at-Law) of West Kensington...So perhaps we can assume Laura's maiden name was Greatorex..."

..... I thought that the 2 most likely possibilities were:

1) transcription error from 1870 marriage (Louisa should be Laura)

2) Louisa is correct, but she decided that she preferred to be known as Laura.

What do you think ?
