Thanks Averil. I did do a search on McQuiggin in the newspapers at the iMuseum in July - when I got the quoted announcement - and didn't find any other reference to the drowning. I also looked at the following few issues but failed to find anything. It's possible that the indexing isn't infallible, or that I missed something, but I think unless someone has already got the information I'm looking for, my best bet is to hope I can eventually find a death cert and that the information I find there gives me some good leads.
