Re: cecil Christian
In Response To: Re: cecil Christian ()

Hi David,
I was quoting Reg when I wrote: "Reg wrote that he was looking for Cecil Christian B 1895 Patrick, who in the 1901 census was living with his mother Margaret Christian in Castletown Road, Foxdale with siblings Maggie, Lottie and Rubie".

I was also quoting the Household transcription for the 1901 census to which he was referring (even though Cecil's place of birth differed, everything else he wrote identified the family).

The crux of the matter is that there were two William Christian wives having children in the same area around the same time. Your William Joseph CHRISTIAN ag.37 was buried at Foxdale 28 May 1895 [BL's index]. Reg's William Christian d.Colorado June 6th 1892 aged 37 years [his MI].

Interesting thought that "Cecil son" (of Margaret) could be the Cecil son of Susanna Corrin who died the year of his birth. I suppose he could have been adopted by Margaret, but could a widow with several children afford to take in another (unrelated) child? It is quite a stretch, and I don't know how you would prove it one way or the other, unless you find his exact birth date given in a later record which ties him back to Margaret. Or she left a will referring to her adopted son. Or if there is a court record about the care of the orphaned children.
The Cecil in 1911 working on a farm had b.Foxdale.

I didn't get anywhere with finding either of the Cecils later, apart from the Cecil A who was a passenger from London to Sydney and could have been English.
